But How Many Costume Changes Will He Have?

My future husband, Aziz Ansari, is host the MTV movie awards this year and to celebrate, MTV made this awesome clip featuring McGone's other girlfriend, Kristen Bell, and BeckEye's inappropriate crush, Zac Efron. Check it out:

Are the kids ... actually all right?

The natural order of things.

I graduated from high school ten years ago next month, and have barely set foot inside a high school since. I had to go to one today for work, and I noticed something: The kids seemed really upbeat and happy.

My natural reaction to this was, WTF?!? Granted, the kids were out of class for a pep rally (don’t bother wondering why I was at a high school pep rally for work, its nowhere near as intriguing as it sounds) but still. During the bygone days of my teen years, we were all a bunch of sullen malcontents who only hated one thing more than being in class, and that was pep. My school barely had a cheerleading squad. Our sports teams were full of kids who weren’t good enough for private schools. Showing anything resembling “school spirit” was grave offense in the social order of things.

But here were these kids, with their skinny jeans (that’s still going on?) and Keds, all smiling like they were actually happy to be alive. Is this a Southern California thing? Has “Friday Night Lights” made pep rallies cool? Why do I suspect a complicated formula of VH1, sushi and Jimmy Fallon is to blame?

Anyway, my worldview is kind of in disarray here. If you need me, I’ll be reading The Catcher in the Rye and writing love songs about Gavin Rossdale.

Required Reading

I found this post (via) entitled "Feminism for Young Dudes" which pretty perfectly says what I always want to say to dudes who hate feminism and SATC. And, it's written by a man! This part in particular is choice:

Is there a girl you know who regularly has consensual, healthy sex with other unattached and willing participants — with no "drama," nobody hurting anybody or "dicking anyone around"? Do you sometimes think of this girl as a "whore" or a "slut," even while thinking that the men she's sleeping with are just "getting lucky" and "hey, good for them"? You should really stop this. You should stop thinking it, and you should especially stop saying it to other people.

In fact — and this is for the white boys in the audience, mostly, but I trust you'll all get the point — you should think about it in the same way you do "the n-word." Look at that! I can't even write it out, as I am theoretically talking about it! And this is a good thing. Mainly, what I am saying here, is that maybe one day, you will think of these words as the "w-word" and the "s-word" and you'll be uncomfortable ever using them at all. You've just got to work at it.
Check it out in it's entirety. I said it was required!

Awesome Friday Links

If we were on Tumblr, these would be rebloged...

Some girl asked Conan O'Brien to her prom back in 2003 and he turned her down with this adorable letter.

The new Susan Boyle is this Taiwanese kid who has a phenomenal voice. Here, on Dave's favorite late night show, he duets on "Total Eclipse of the Heart"with William Shatner. It. Is. Amazing. Mostly because Shatner's speak-singing will always be hilarious.

Party Down returns tonight on Starz and Netflix Instant Play. If you didn't watch the first season, you are missing out, yo!

Quotes from one of the funniest 30 Rock episodes in awhile - Lee Marvin vs Derek Jeter.

That'll do, I guess. Have a wonderful weekend!

Wanna Help Me With My Homework?

So, as most of you know (because I'm sure I've mentioned it at some point), I've gone back to school to get my Masters. One of my classes is in web design and I've created a site for The Let's Make Outs. It's not very complicated, but I think it's pretty rad.

Anyway, here's where you come in...I need people to test it out and make sure everything works and looks okay in different browsers and to different eyes. So please, if you have some spare time, click here and take a minute (or 5) to look around. Then leave a comment or email me your thoughts on what you like/hate and what works/doesn't work. So many of you are such talented designers, I'd really love to get your feedback...especially constructive criticism. I mean, just because I think it's the best website ever doesn't mean everyone agrees with me. I won't even tell you you're wrong if you say it's all terrible. Thanks in advanced for not saying it's all terrible!

P.S. Some of you already did this for me a few weeks ago. Please know, if I didn't implement your suggestions, it wasn't because they were crappy. It was mostly because I didn't know how to make the changes. I'm learning! Love you all! xoxo

How I Spent My Weekend

Friday I decided to express interest in taking a job in Virginia. So there's, like, a 90% chance I'm moving to Williamsburg. I'm very excited about this. I know what you're all thinking, though. What about the band?! Well, we'll have to take a break and play only reunion shows every time I visit SD. Our version of "Little Red Corvette" is too awesome not share with the world more than once.

Saturday, I met a friend at The Waterfront and we watched the Padres beat the D-Backs. I was recognized by a dude who saw us play at the open mic last weekend. It was rad.

Yesterday, I went to see the Padres live and in person sweep the Diamondbacks. This was very wonderful and exciting and made their record 2 for 2 for games where I am present. This obviously means I am their good luck charm. They should give me free season tickets.

This morning, I came to work and found this gem. Some words of wisdom for dudes by Christina Hendricks. Love!

How was your weekend?

I Want to Go to There

Cat Sound!

I know we've been a little light on content lately. I have no good excuse. An considering what I'm about to post, you'll be happy(?) to know things are not changing anytime soon.

Apparently, Harry Potter himself (aka Daniel Radcliffe) is headed back to Broadway to star in one of my favorite musicals, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. I really want to see it.

That is all. Have a nice weekend!

Conan Soundcheck

Before the first show of his recently launched comedy tour (did we mention we're going?), Conan O'Brien sang Radiohead's "Creep" for his soundcheck in a really silly English accent. And it was rad...

Cross-Blog!

Yesterday, Liz and I attended the Padres Opening Day at Petco Park. It was freaking awesome as the Padres beat the Braves 17-2! I flirted with Kyle Blanks while Liz rooted for Will Venable to become the first Padre to hit for the cycle (he ended up a double short). Anyway, check out Liz's write up (with photos!) over at The Kept Faith. It's great reading, whether you're a Padres fan or not.

Hi, Kyle. Hiiiiii....

This (Mostly) Just In

- Conan to be on TBS! The redheaded giant will return to late night comedy in November on that station with all the Tyler Perry shows. Very funny.

- Phil Mickelson makes Tiger look even worse! San Diego’s own Phil Mickelson won the Masters yesterday, and his emotional celebration with his family (his wife and mother are both battling breast cancer) was in sharp contrast with Woods, the serial womanizer who finished fourth.

- RIP Dixie Carter. The main chick from Designing Women passed away.

- Tina Fey is funny! The object of this blog’s biggest woman crush hosted SNL this weekend, and revived her Sarah Palin impression.

-The Let’s Make Outs rock! Our band played its second ever “show” last night, and I think it went pretty well. We have a new member, our friend Amber, and she plays a mean tambourine. That link is to our Facebook page, become a fan!

- It’s Padres Opening Day! Red and I are lucky enough to have tickets. Hopefully this morning’s rain is done for good, and the Friars will go for a win.

Beer of the Month

Remember when I said I was gonna start a Beer of the Month Club way back in October? Ooops!

Well, here's our second installment. Ladies and gentleman, I give you Abita Brewing Co's Purple Haze! It's a wheat lager with hints of raspberry. I consumed my fair share while in the great city of New Orleans. Now, it's on tap at my San Diego favorite burger joint. Huzzah!

If you listen to the snobs at Beer Advocate, you'd think it sucks. And, I'm not gonna lie, it's a bit...what's the word I want...pedestrian. But considering I don't like wheat or fruit beers, I think it's pretty great. Plus, it's a pseudo-homage to Jimmy Hendix and he was cool and stuff.

So check out Purple Haze and lets us know about your favorite new adult beverage in the comments. There's no time like this weekend to broaden our drunken horizons, amirite?

RIP: Malcolm McLaren

The guy who put the Sex Pistols together - and more or less launched punk rock - died today. This probably isn't a big deal to most people, but as a person who never fully let go of her punk phase, I'll be pouring one out tonight.

Here's a weird/creepy video for one of McLaren's solo songs:

What in the What?

Have you guys seen this new Nike ad with Tiger Woods? It's just a closeup of Tiger looking like he's going to cry, while the disembodied voice of his dead father wonders if he's learned anything.

I have no idea what this is supposed to do: Humanize him? Make us feel sorry for him? Remind us all of our own immortality, and therefore Tiger's immortality, thus forcing us to forgive his sins as he would forgive ours? Induce us to buy Nike golf shoes? No clue. What I do know is that I bet my boyfriend $2 that Tiger won't make the cut at the Masters, and this doesn't make me regret it.

A box office for my home?!?

Remember when I said I was quitting TV? Yeah .... I just ordered HBO. Oh wellz. Blame Red and her witchcraft!!!!

HBO should really keep her on salary.

This (mostly) Just In...

What's up, Monday morning people?! Hope your weekend was lovely and not full of earthquakes like ours was (actually, earthquakes in SD are rarely very destructive...they're mostly just weird. Thank goodness for that). Anyway, here's some stuff you may or may not be aware of...

Anna Paquin: Bisexual - Isn't, like, everyone under 30 bisexual these days? The best joke I've read about this story from Warming Glow: "[...]this shocking announcement has had an immediate effect on the television industry, as True Blood has halted production until Stephen Moyer recovers from exhaustion as a result of too many high-fives." Oh, marry me, Matt Ufford.

New (Steven Page Free) Barenaked Ladies Album: Just Okay - I downloaded it last night and there are some really great tracks (like the lead off song "You Run Away") and some pretty craptastic songs (like "I Have Learned"), but I love BNL and I'm sure the album will grow on me.

Baseball: Opening Day - Sure, it technically started last night with the Yankees and Red Sox facing off at Fenway, but no one cares about those teams. Today the season really begins. Everyone in the known universe is saying my Padres will finish dead last in their division...and they're probably right...but with players like Kyle Blanks and Heath Bell and Yorvit Torrealba and Adrian Gonzalez (for now), I'll enjoy watching them do it.

Top 5: New TV Crushes

It's about that time again. Here are the top 5 dudes steaming up my TV watching lately:

5. Bryan Greenberg: How to Make it In America - I've mentioned him before, but this Nebraska native is worth mentioning again.

4. Peter Krause: Parenthood - I've always liked Peter Krause, but he hasn't been on a show I've actually watched since Sports Night (you may remember I quit Six Feet Under after one season). I've decided not to watch Parenthood either, but my roommate watches it and sometimes I get sucked in. Peter (and Lauren Graham) just do that to me. (As an aside, I did realize this could be the show for which Lauren Graham finally wins her much deserved Emmy. It might be worth watching for that.)

3. John Corbett: The United States of Tara - So this one isn't new, as I've crushed on John since his Northern Exposure days, but it's just so nice to have him back on TV, I had to include him. Super bonus points for singing and playing piano on the episode this week.

2. James Badge Dale: The Pacific - The new HBO miniseries about WWII is jam-packed with dreamy fellas (as I knew it would be), but James Badge Dale (or JBD as I've just decided I like to call him) may be the dreamiest. It doesn't hurt that his character is the romantic, writer of poetry type.

1. Timothy Olyphant: Justified - Are you watching Justified? It's fun! And would totally be easy to jump into without watching previous episodes. Again, Olyphant is someone I've always enjoyed, but his turn as a bad ass lawman in a 10 gallon hat really has me excited.

How about you? What hotness monsters are you enjoying these days?
