OR
2. Baz Luhrmann remaking The Great Gatsby?
I gotta go with the Spielberg/Smith remake of the uber-dark Korean movie about torture and vengeance. I'm not saying the fellas can't go dark, but dark enough? I dunno.

I'm going to go ahead and vote "NO" on both of those.
Those both sound awful, but I think I'll go with the Old Boy remake as well. I haven't seen it, but I saw Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, and ... yeah, Speilberg and Smith aren't ready for that
I gotta say Luhrmann. Spielberg can do dark..."Schindler's List" and "Munich", anyone? But after "Australia", I wouldn't trust Baz to tie his shoes correctly.
God, no. They already ruined Bangkok Dangerous for me last year. And The Eye. Fuck all of them.
I'm going with Speilburg and Smith because, like Imaginary reviewer said, I'm also really tired of Americans messing with masterpieces of Asian cinema.
Gatsby is pretty dull, so I think Baz might do well to tart it up a bit.
Luhrmann's Gatsby is a worse idea. Spielberg and Smith might not give Oldboy justice (no pun intended for those who have seen Oldboy) but it has less chance of sucking.
A colleague of mine was telling me about the remake of "The Great Gatsby" the other day. Because of what I've heard about Luhrmann, his retooling of "The Great Gatsby" sounds like the better of the two.
What has me playing the role of "Doubting Thomas" is that Will Smith secured the rights to the trilogy of comedies that Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier starred in during the 70s (Uptown Saturday Night, Let's Do It Again, and A Piece of the Action). If he makes those films and fucks them up, there will be many (me included) who will be pissed!
Which one will involve more breakdancing robots? Because that one will dominate.
I'll tentatively back Spielberg. As Words Words Words said, he can do dark. Witness the fact that I'm the only person who liked "A.I." But Smith will probably commercial up the whole thing for mass consumption.
And I hereby leave you the official rights to "Who You Got?"

Speaking of potentially disasterous Will Smith remakes, apparently he will be producing another Karate Kid movie, starring his son and Jackie Chan...as Mr. Miyagi...in China!? I'm already crying...
