Automatic for the People

Really, this is one of my least favorite R.E.M. albums (yeah, you heard me), but overall I'm pretty big fan of the the band, and I ran into a fun little tidbit about the orgin of the album's name. Apparently it comes from the slogan of a restaurant known as Weaver D's in Athens, Georgia:

(WARNING: this clip involves artory-clogging doses of southern fried foods)

Aw, a video that starts out with Uga and just keeps on going with fried food. Yeah baby, my kinda movie!

Uh oh, Dawg in the house.

War Eagle, what do you have to say about THAT?

awww, I can't watch this clip at work but my brother attends UGA and it can tend to get pretty ridiculous down there!

Dave finally posts something and I can't comment!

(so I did anyway)

I've actually been to the catering service and had my picture taken out front. It was one of the happiest moments of my life.

I was a bit disappointed in "Automatic For the People" when it was released. However, it did have a couple of my fave R.E.M. songs on it (Drive and The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight). I picked up that tidbit about the origin of the title from MTV. I believe it was bespectacled VJ Kennedy who mentioned it.
