Golden Globe Predictions: Movies

Part II (full disclosure: Garney totally helped me with my picks as he a) has seen more of the nominees than I have and b) is way better at predicting these things):

Best Picture - Drama: Slumdog Millionaire. None of the nominees are my pic for the best picture I've seen this year (that would go to Milk or Wall-E), so I'm picking Slumdog because it's won the most critics awards so far.

Actress - Drama: Anne Hathaway. This is a Garney pick. Plus, the Globes love new blood. I wouldn't count out Meryl (ever) or Angelina, though.

Actor - Drama: Sean Penn. Sure he won not too long ago, but no one gave a better performance this year. The only person I could see snatching this from him is Mickey Rourke because everyone loves a good comeback.

Best Picture - Comedy: In Bruges. The only comedy nominated I really liked a lot. Mamma Mia? Really?

Actress - Comedy: Sally Hawkins. Again, based on all the critical attention and the lack of decent competition.

Actor - Comedy: Colin Farrell. His best work ever, in my not-so-humble opinion.

Supporting Actress: Penelope Cruz. Her best work ever, in my not-so-humble opinion.

Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger. He was amazing and it's posthumous. I can't imagine this not happening.

Animated Film: Wall-E. Probably my favorite film of the year. I'm bummed it can't win the Best Picture award it actually deserves.

Director: Danny Boyle. Best Picture and Best Director should go hand in hand.

Screenplay: Doubt. Because Garney said so.

Score: Benjamin Button. Because Garney said so.

Original Song: "The Wrestler" Because it The Boss!

Tune in Sunday night to see how well (or poorly) I do.

I can't get into the Golden Globes. I think the Oscars are kind of stupid too, but at least it's "the big show." The GGs are just like an excuse for celebs to spend a bunch of money on another outfit they'll never wear again because they can't wait the extra month or two until the Oscars to salivate over each other and pat themselves on the back.

Boy, I'm very celebitchy today.

Wall-E was my favorite movie of 2008, too. I also really liked The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Slumdog Millionaire, Burn After Reading (I'm a Coens whore) and Ghost Town (I have no excuse except that Ricky Gervais' character reminded me of me.)

Ghost Town was much better than expected. Gervais was great...and a way bigger jerk than you.

Doubt should win because it features Amy Adams.

Great list.

I voted for Mickey Rourke on best actor, and best film is the Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Talkies are a passing fad.

Am I an insensitive bitch for not seeing the point in awarding a dead guy an award?!

I'm only half serious... unless you DO think I'm an insensitive bitch, in whichcase, I was totally kidding, RED! Duh. I actually heart Heath Ledger very much and would be crushed if he DIDN'T get it.

You know where I disagree with you, but here's why...

Comedy - Vicky Cristina Barcelona because not all the voters will appreciate the dark brilliance of In Bruges

Drama Actor - Brad Pitt because the HFPA loves to award the bigger celebrities (George Clooney won this award for O Brother Where Art Thou), and also they snubbed Milk in all the other categories

Supporting Actress - Kate Winslet because she needs to win one (it will be this one because Hathaway did more press than Cruz) and they apparently loved The Reader since it got all the nominations that should have gone to Milk

I've pretty much seen everything except Frost/Nixon, Last Chance Harvey and Mamma Mia, but here's how I'd vote:

Drama: Benjamin Button (best out of this bunch, but there were at least five better - Milk, The Visitor, The Dark Knight, Synecdoche New York and Changeling)
Actress: Kate Winslet
Actor: Sean Penn
Comedy: In Bruges (only one that was better was Wall-E)
Actress: Rebecca Hall
Actor: Colin Farrell
Supporting Actress: Penelope Cruz (even though Winslet and Tomei were a lot more naked)
Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger
Animated: Wall-E
Director: David Fincher (since they didn't nominated Christopher Nolan, Gus Van Sant, or Martin McDonough)
Screenplay: Benamin Button (since they didn't nominate In Bruges, The Visitor, or Milk)
Score: Benjamin Button (since there's no Thomas Newman for Revolutionary Road or Danny Elfman for Milk)
Song: The Wrestler (only one better is Jon Brion's Little Person in Synecdoche New York)
