Top 5: Movies to Make You Cry

So yesterday, I asked if Gran Torino is the new Bravehart (the movie to make men cry), and apparently Braveheart never made any man cry, ever. My intel must be faulty. However, something good did come out this debacle...a post idea! Here now are the top 5 movies that made me cry like a little baby*:

In America - The story of Irish immigrants in America makes me weep every time I see it. Liz watched it recently and said she just got teary. Obviously, Liz = No Soul.

Dances With Wolves - I don't even remember now why it made me cry so hard, but I remember the friend I saw it with said to me after I'd cried through the end credits, "Why are you still crying?" Obviously, that "friend" = No Soul.

Searching For Bobby Fischer - This movie is about a little boy who plays chess. Chess! Who cries at the freaking chess movie?!? I do, apparently. I guess I related to the pressure little Josh (chess boy) felt to be amazing at something, realizing he'd always come up short.

Sense and Sensibility - When Elinor bursts into tears at the end because [Spoiler Alert!] she realizes Edward didn't marry that terrible skeeze, I lose it. Every time.

A Mighty Heart - I didn't realize until halfway through the film that Daniel Pearl was the reporter who was beheaded in Pakistan (I'm not so good with the names sometimes) and I spent the rest of the movie worried they would show the actual beheading. What I should have worried about was the gut wrenching final scene when Angelina realizes her husband is dead. What a mess that made me.

So, many of you noted the movies that made you cry in the comments yesterday, but if you didn't, get on it! I know you're all so stoic and nothing makes you cry, ever, but just make something up if you must.

* It should be noted, I cry at, well, a lot. I mean, I refused to let anyone watch the Gilmore Girls series finale with me because I knew I'd cry through the whole damn thing...and I did.

The only reason I can think of to cry during Braveheart is a definite lack of Sophie Marceau naked. Or Jeanne Marine, for that matter.

I will admit this, though: Hoosiers gets me teary-eyed every time. I blame it on the IHSAA stealing the glory and greatness of the State Championship.

As you know, I cried during the opening of the new Star Trek movie. Seriously, that was sad. EG _made_ me watch _Dancer in the Dark_ which he says is the saddest movie ever, but I was pissed at him for making me watch it b/c there's not really a payoff or anything to redeem it - just unrelenting sadness. I like a little catharsis with my tears, dammit. I cried in the theater at _Life is Beautiful_, and that was in the days when I hardly ever cried.

Oh yeah, Life is Beautiful - that thing nearly had me sobbing. For some reason I cry more at movies I watch late at night, probably because I'm tired, and I remember watching that after work one night in high school.

It's true though, I might not have a soul. I got misty at my brother's wedding this weekend, but didn't cry. But then I kind of did cry while watching Band of Brother's on the flight home, so who knows. Can a soul come and go?

Definitely Life is Beautiful, like Liz said. Also The Notebook. Shut up, I know. But it gets me every. single. time.

Hmmm. Forrest Gump and The Namesake comes to mind. I think Young at Heart and Anvil! The Story of Anvil got me really close to shedding a tear.

I think ET when it first came out is a strong possibility but I must have either been dropped a few times as an infant or i was taking hard drugs as the time because there's little that i remember from before i was like 8.

There, are you happy now Red!?!?!

Wow, I can't imagine crying at any of these movies. And I cry at a lot of movies.

The two parts that get me in Dances are when Lt Dunbar wakes up to see the soldiers shooting at Two Socks and then the end when the guy is yelling his farewell across the canyon.

The movie that I can't seem to finish watching though without crying is Magnolia. That final scene where you can barely hear John C. Reilly offscreen talking to Melora Walters while "Save Me" is playing and she just slowly starts smiling.

The most I remember crying in a theater was when I saw a foreign film called Lilya 4 Ever five or six years ago.
