Dolla dolla bill, y'all!

I’ve been trying to save money since I started making money. I was a lot more successful at it when I was 11 and had a paper route and Mom and Dad were covering the major expenses. Now, in the days of rent and student loans, it's tough.

Every time I read a “Tips for saving $$$” feature on Yahoo! or CNN, they say the same thing: Bring a lunch, don’t buy it; bring coffee, don’t buy it; etc., all of which I already do. I get the impression they’re holding back on the good stuff, like “How to make a healthy, filling meal out of newspapers and wine corks.”

So here’s where you guys come in. Now that we’re a few months into the Greatest Depression Ever!, what have you been doing to keep your munnies safe by your side? The best idea wins a bright shiny nickel from me* which they can sock away for a rainy day.

* As soon as someone invents a way to send nickels over the Internetz.

I'm convinced if I stopped drinking I could pay off all my bills within 2 years. There's my tip for ya.

Yeah, but then your therapist bill would be astronomical...

All right, we all know that cutting back on alcohol is the Silver Bullet to everyone's personal financial crisese, but let's pretend like that's not even an option. Because it's not.

I don't drink and my finances are still crap. Don't for one minute let anyone tell you giving it up will make you better off. It's a lie. Just like that other one, what was that lie...oh yeah! Size doesn't matter, what a crock.

1. Use threatening letters from bill collectors as toilet paper.

2. Sneak onto movie sets and eat the free craft service food. Just act like you belong there and nobody will know.

3. Volunteer at a soup kitchen and do the old "one for you, one for me" method of serving.

4. Kidnap neighborhood pets and then return them for the reward.

5. Spend less and save more.

Yes, #5 is totally a joke.

I'm laughing both at the post and the comments. Oh how I love GitW and its readers.
