In which Elle Magazine fails at making me feel better

The French version of the fashion mag Elle does this thing every year where they show actresses without makeup or air brushing. I guess the point of this is to show what a "real woman" looks like, or something.

This article here goes on and on about how great it is, and how American magazines should do it too, because we need to see more "real people" on the cover of magazines, and deep down inside we're all the same, etc., etc., etc. Trouble is, all these pictures did for me is confirm my long-held suspicions that it would take an army of Clinique counter technicians to make me look half as good as these chicks look without their makeup.

As they say in France, merde.

Yeah do they have to pick natural beauties? Can't they pick average women?

Well, if you had a team of people cooking your food and working you out and cutting your hair and giving you facials, you could look like Monica Bellucci, too. With or without makeup.

Not that you'd want to...because there is only one Liz. Why would you want to look like anyone else?

What Red said. They're not going to let these women look bad, just less good. It's still not comparable.

They need to get SJP for that issue. Remember that scene in the Sex and The City movie where she goes into the bathroom in Mexico and looks in the mirror?? YOWSA. I had nightmares for weeks after seeing that.

It's not that I want to look like them per se, it just kind of kills that little theory we all say to ourselves when we look at pretty ladies, "I could look like with a makeup artist too!" Turns out, no, you couldn't.
