Let Them Consume Alcohol

More than 100 universities across the US are urging law makers to lower the drinking age from 21 to 18 in an attempt to curb binge drinking. The arguments are varied: kids are drinking anyway, why not make it legal; if a kid is old enough to vote and go to war, they are old enough to drink; if we lower the drinking age, maybe future drunken starlets will show us their lady areas on the regular (pervy college deans). I say, whatever. You can't really regulate human behavior, so why spend so much GD money trying? Am I right? Yes. Of course I am.

What this world DEFINITELY needs is some more crowded bars...might as well get them all into one spot where they're easily sarin gassed!

Love that picture. They do have a point with the whole "you can die in Iraq but not have a beer" argument, but if you make it 18 you'll see a lot worse drinking in high school.

I stopped caring about this issue on my 21st birthday ;-)

The dumbest part of their argument, though, is that they can educate up-and-coming drinkers about the dangers of alcohol consumption.

Jesus, you can do that when they're ten. What a stupid argument. How'd you get in the position of power?

Otherwise, yeah, 18 makes sense to me. Hell, 16 and no driver's license until 18. Let's see how that works.

I would be satisfied if the drinking age were lowered to 18 within 100 yards of my position at any given time.

I don't like this idea so much despite its logic, because I like knowing that girls at the dive bar I'm drinking my life away in are at least 21, since that makes me feel like slightly less of a lecherous perv. But if you start allowing people born in 1990 (Jesus Christ! Vanilla Ice's heyday as a birth year!) in, I'm just going to have to drink more to dull the pain of aging this disgracefully.

Well now they need to raise the legal age to get a driver's license.

Yeah it won't work at all. The drinking age in the UK is 18 and it's the drunkest country I've ever seen especially that age group. I grew up in that and believe me, they have a problem. Keeping it 21 at least ensures SOME of those kids can't access the stuff.

However, you can't fault the argument that you're old enough to vote yet not considered responsible enough to have a beer. Apart from you can. 18 year olds don't know a damn shitting thing about voting either. Make that 21 too. Seriously.
