Sign #357 that I'm getting old

Am I the only one who doesn’t really want to see Pineapple Express?

Based solely on commercials and trailers I’ve seen for this movie, I feel like I’ve already seen it 400 times. Judd Apatow movie about grown up dudes who act like 12-year-olds. Yep, definitely been there before.

Also, I have to confess something: I don’t really get the whole Seth Rogan thing. Like, yeah, he’s funny, kind of. I actually liked him a lot better in Superbad than Knocked Up. But he’s not that good, you know? And yet, movie poster makers seem to think just the sight of his pudgy face is enough to make me want to hand over $11 and two hours of my life. (Hint: Its not).

Observe:

Notice a pattern here?

I love stupid humor as much as anyone. And I like stoner movies too. I just feel like if someone asked 5 months ago what everyone thinks the next Judd Apatow movie is going to be like, 95 percent of responders would have said, “I don’t know? Some kind of stoner movie with Seth Rogan?” It just seems a little obvious.

If Pineapple Express is the funniest film of the year and breaks The Dark Knight’s box office numbers and I end up seeing it three times in the theatre and buying the DVD, consider my apology on the table. But as of right now, I’d rather stay home and watch Freaks and Geeks.

*Sigh* I guess this is what happens when you're no longer in targeted age demographics.

I'd watch The Franco in anything, but I'll probably wait for the DVD on this one.

I don't get him, either. I mean, in 40-year-old virgin, he was funny. I haven't seen Superbad, but I probably will go see Zak and Miri when it comes out...not because of Rogen, but because it's Kevin Smith.

I think he's funny, but as with anyone who becomes the "go-to funnyman," he's gotten overhyped and overexposed, which makes a lot of people sick of him. I suppose this has even happened to Will Ferrell, but people who are sick of Will Ferrell are just completely stupid.

I've seen neither "Knocked Up" nor "Pineapple Express" even though everyone else in the entire world has.

Noted Tiffany. I changed it. Thanks for pointing out how dumb I am.

You hit the nail on the head, Malloy.

This movie sucked and Rogan needs to take a looooong vacation

If I do watch this, it'll be on DVD. I guess that Seth Rogen is filling a void now that people like Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey are getting long in the tooth. I haven't seen any of Seth's movies. However, he was one of my fave characters on Freaks and Geeks.

I saw it for free thanks to some friends with better jobs than mine, and it was fairly amusing, but that's just mostly because I want to like everything David Gordon Green does. Hearing him talk after the screening made me like the movie way more than I would have otherwise, and I went in not liking Seth Rogen and hating James Franco. Both were good here, I'm afraid.

Franco's method for acting stoned: "I just acted like I was perpetually looking into the wind." Brilliant.
