At the Movies: The Happening

After being sucked in the the riveting US Open (yes, I did just write that. Who knew golf was exciting?!?), I took a break from Tiger and met Liz to see M. Night Shyamalan's new film, The Happening. The reviews have not been kinda (and Garney sent me a text after seeing it Friday night that said something like "Should be called Nothing's Happening") but I'd seen this piece in which M. Night calls the film a fun B-Movie...and that's exactly what it was. "Marky" Mark Wahlberg gives a total B-Movie performance (Liz and I couldn't decided if his bad acting was purposeful or not. I like to think it was purposeful...that makes it pretty funny) and the final premise is a bit silly, but I'm not gonna lie and say I wasn't both grossed out by some gore and jumping in my skin. I'm not advising you run out and see The Happening (because I know you jokers do anything I say), but save it to your Netflix queue for sometime around Halloween when you feel like a silly B-Movie about people killing themselves.

And there's nothing wrong with staring at these two for 90 minutes.

I don't find Marky Mark the least bit attractive, but Zooey on the other hand....rowr.

It's definitely a high-brow Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, if that makes any sense. I enjoyed myself, won't lie.

You know, it's a shame that this is B-movie-esque, because the damn trailers make it so A-movie-looking. When I went to see The Strangers last week, this was the best trailer of them all!

I can't think of a single director whose work has made me go from "Wow, I've got to see his next movie" (his first two) to "Ye Gods, you couldn't pay me to see that" quicker than M. Night.

"Swing away" is among the stupidest moments in a movie ever.

Like I already told you, I don't know if I hated this one more than The Village or not, but I don't plan on watching either of them again to find out.

And the complete title should be: Nothing's Happening for 91 Minutes (But It Feels Like More Than 2 Hours)

I like Mark Wahlberg as an actor, but wish they would show him in his boxer-briefs more.

I have heard bad things about this movie, so I will wait until TNT or TBS aire it in the fall.

It wasn't as bad as critics say but I had to see it because it was filmed just 15 miles awy from That Blue Yak headquarters. As for Walburg acting? Awful. Was he trying to do an imitation of someone? If so, who? And the dialog was laughable.
