Emmy Nominations: B-More gets one final dis'

Snubbed again, naturally.

Looks like The Wire will remain something of a cult classic, and that’s just fine with me.

The Emmy nominations were released this morning, and everyone’s (read: the gals who write for this site) favorite gritty Baltimore drug saga got only one nomination, for writing, in its final season. This means one of the best dramas ever never got nominated for Best Drama in the Oscars of television.

Personally, I’m OK with it. Mostly for two reasons: (A) I learned long ago that awards shows don’t necessarily honor “the best.” Plenty of great movies, shows and performances go unheralded by the statue set. And (B) The Wire is all about how effed up the system is, and how no good deed goes unpunished, so its kind of fitting that it never got love from the establishment. (Plus – to be a total snob - this keeps the bandwagon to a minimum, and its always fun to be part of a secret club).

Aside from the Wire snub, however, there were a few bright spots in this year’s Emmy nods:

- Michael Emerson was nominated for his amazing work as Ben on Lost

- Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin and the show 30 Rock itself all got well-deserved nods

- And Red’s favorite, Mad Men was nominated for Best Drama.

More of the nominees can be read here, and a full list – complete with categories you don’t care about at all – can be found here.

What do you guys think? Who was robbed and who's un-deserving? Dish, dish, dish!

I am kinda jazzed about the love for Damages, Mad Men and 30 Rock, but no love for The Wire really means these awards mean nothing at all.

I've more or less given up on TV. However, I've seen Dominic West onstage. Me likey! But I know the woman who was the vocal coach on that show for at least the first few seasons, and she basically said, "Oh, honey, you don't want to get within a country mile of that." She may be right.

Well, after all, The Wire is no Lost, because it doesn't feature any goddamned space polar bears on a...

I hate Lost. I've never seen it, but I'm tired of people whispering about it like it's the antidote to a blase life. If they could hear the conversations they have about the show, they'd realize that they might as well be speaking Elvish.

Yes, awards never honor GOOD TV just "trendy" tv. Cult classics like The Wire are too good for their stupid awards. Plus do you really want trendy asshats talking about it over their iced cappuccinos like they discovered it? PSH!!!

I'm jazzed to jump on the Mad Men train when it comes back for its second season later this month. I never caught its first season, but there was a fantastic article in EW a while ago which kindly provided everything I need to know in order to enjoy season two.

Lost is amazing Pistols, and Michael Emerson is one of the best parts. I am right, you are wrong, deal with it.

At least Jericho got a nomination for visual effects, and Flight of the Conchords better win that music and lyrics award since it deserves to be in the comedy series running.

Liz, you can be right if you want. I'm not saying you're not. I just remember a bunch of sci-fi nerds printing out maps, trying to figure out what island they were on, analyzing clues from websites and so forth. For a goddamned TV show. Maybe their personal lives and relationships wouldn't have been such goddamn wrecks if they'd talked to real people as opposed to obsessing over fictional ones.

You are right about that Pistols, some people are WAAAAY too into it. But it is a really great show, esp for something on a major network
