Top 5: Celebrity Crushes

I hate to post anything, because Liz's ComicCon post was pretty much the height of competence here at The Watchword, but I realized it's been, like, an entire month(!) since I wrote something boy crazy, and that's just unacceptable. Here are my top 5 current celebrity crushes:

1. Evan Longoria: Tampa Bay Rays - The potential AL Rookie of the Year is so adorable I can hardly stand it. I'm rooting for the Rays to make it to the series so I can spend October with Longoria (and Scott Kazmir). Ladies, this is why I really love baseball.

2. Jon Hamm: Mad Men - With the second season premiering last night, the delicious Don Draper is back to show us how gorgeous men look in suits, smoking and drinking like it's going out of style. I even got a little excited when I saw him in the trailer for the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still (which looks decent until Keanu Reeves appears and Neo's all over the place). It's so nice to see men look like men again.

3. Joba Chamberlain: New York Yankees - Honestly, this list could be full of baseball players. This one kind of pains me, because the Yankees are evil, but Joba is so cute and, based on his appearance at the ESPYs, has a lovely singing voice. Sigh.

4. Shia LeBeouf: Leading Man of the Future - My love for the scrappy 22-year-old is semi-well documented. Sadly, he was arrested for a DUI over the weekend. Let's try and keep it together, love.

5. James Ransone: Generation Kill - I'm so completely obsessed with this HBO miniseries. I've recommended it to everyone. James Ransone is hands down the funniest character on any TV show not called 30 Rock (he also played my second favorite character on The Wire (Omar being character #1, obvs)). Gah! He's so effing fantastic, there are no words.

Feel free, as always, to make fun of me with your comments.

The only guy I've heard of is Shia LeBeouf - the man most likely to anger my spell checker.

Isn't Evan Longoria a star in that Desperate Housewives show? What will they do without her when she goes to play baseball?

Bah, I knew about Longoria and Kazmir long before they made it big this year.

If they are ever on reassignment with the minor league club, feel free to swing by the Crown of Thistles offices and I can get you some cheap (and by cheap, I mean free) tickets so you can see them up close and deliciously personal.

mjenks: I knew about Kazmir last year, too, because he is effing amazing, but are you trying to tell me you are in some way affiliated with the Rays minor league system? If so, why aren't we best friends?

And Dan: Eva Longoria wishes she was as adorable as Evan (no relation).

I'm affiliated with them in that I live in Durham. I go to a lot of games and can score tickets pretty much anytime I want.

I'm laughing at Dan.

I agree with your Jon Hamm pick -- he is fucking smokin' hot. Such a delicious man's man.

My new(-ish) celebrity crush has to be Eric Dane. I don't even watch Grey's Anatomy, but I've considered tuning in just to see him.

Mmmmm.

I hope your #6 is Capt'n Hook because Shia apparently suffered extensive hand damage.

I feel so out of touch with pop culture that if I tried this post, it would be like, "#1 - Myrna Loy. This sultry screen gem has gams 'til Tuesday and enough va-va-voom to make her a true four-alarm broad! Ha-cha-cha!"

This is why girls shouldn't be allowed to watch baseball. Men have more mature perspectives on the game. We watch because:

1. It gives us a reason to curse at each other based on nothing more than our birthplace or the color of our cap.

2. Batting average with men in scoring position is the best way to judge a man's character and worth.

Girls should stick to girls' sports like figure skating, Jello wrestling and baking pies.

mjenks: These would be the infamous Durham Bulls, I presume? Sometimes, my goal in life is to become Annie Savoy.

Fal: Eric Dane is pretty cute, but not even his hotness could get me to watch Grey's Anatomy.

Dr. Z: Apparently, they did surgery on his hand and he will be fine. Stop crushing my dreams!

Pistols: Mirna Loy! Oh God, you make me laugh.

Fran: And men should stick to things like not talking. Thanks for commenting. Nice to see you.

Yes, ma'am. The Bulls it is. Costner was just in town to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of the movie.

20. Effing. Years.

I feel old thinking about it again.

It's official people! With crushes on Xavier Nady and Joba Chamberlain, Red is a Yankees Fan!

Mathdude: I curse you and your dirty lies.

If Red was a Yankee fan I wouldn't be sharing a blog with her. Her Joba and X-Man love are making me grumble unhappily though.

I dont' have any new celeb crushes. I've had the same tired old Ewan McGregor crush since high school

Liz: Don't make me bring up Mike Mussina.
